Top 5 moves of the january transfer window - English Premier League
51
As a Liverpool fan it's hugely difficult for me to compile this list because my top choice directly affected my club! However i am nothing if i'm not fair and so here we go.
1: Fernando Torres to Chelsea £50m: While some would argue the price was too much for someone aged 26 who will lose value by the end of his contract, he is no doubt the best buy of the window. Chelsea have signed a complete player, he doesn't need grooming to become a great striker, he is one. He doesn't need to learn the premier league way, he knows it. When things are going his way Fernando Torres is possibly unequalled in terms of his ability as a striker. At Liverpool he had looked downtrodden and sulky, clearly not wanting to be there anymore. Now he has this move he will be at his best for Chelsea and will be back to the way he played for Liverpool back when he was happy!
2: Luis Suarez to Liverpool £22m: Luis Suarez was one of the stars of the world cup, taking Uruguay all the way to the Semi Finals and making them the shock of the tournament, apart from England who were just plain shocking! He scored 81 goals in 110 appearances for Ajax and was wanted by many clubs in January. Looking at the price paid Liverpool got themselves a good deal for a proven goalscorer, albeit only proven in Holland, and look to have acquired a real talent.
3: Darren Bent to Aston Villa 24m: While some balked at the price, Gerard Houllier was secretly laughing in the knowledge he had acquired possibly the best pure goalscorer in the premier league. Bent has slotted straight in and has now played 3 scored 2 for Villa. Darren Bent could well turn out to be the shrewdest signing of the window if Villa can safely beat the drop.
4: Stephen Ireland to Newcastle Loan: Although Ireland hasn't shined at Aston Villa, his skill set is still the same. He's an intelligent midfielder with an eye for goal who would be an asset to most premier league clubs. If he can recapture some of the form that made him such a success for Man City, Newcastle will be eager to make his move permanent come the summer.
5: Andy Carroll to Liverpool 35m: I know the price to the left is hard to ignore. £35m for a striker that has really only enjoyed half a season of real premier league experience. But hear me out. Carroll is a huge prospect, the heir apparent to Shearer or so it seemed until Liverpool swooped. A classic big man with huge aerial talents and a good touch, time will tell whether Andy Carroll can be Liverpool's new number 9 both officially and in the fan's hearts. In this authors opinion he will do just that.

as a liverpool fan i can share your pain seeing torres leave and pretty much spit in the faces of the loyal fans that helped create one of the worlds deadliest hitmen, but i feel liverpool as a club dealt with the transfer brilliantly and if carroll's price tag was £10million lower everyone would have said what fantastic business it was for the club.
an exciting prospect of suarez and carroll brings thoughts and comparissons with the past pairing of toshack and keegan which once graced the anfield pitch, so i can see bright times ahead for the reds.
king kenny did the same thing when at the helm at blackburn, he signed the mentioned shearer as his target man and subsiquently they won the league so as a reds fan i hope the best is to follow!
